Growing Nutrition in Your Own Window
ORGANIC, LOCAL, HEALTHY, EASY, INEXPENSIVE -- SPROUTS ARE THE PERFECT FOOD!
One of the most important steps that you can take to combat climate change is by making the best food choices.
Buying ORGANIC food is best for your health and best for the planet through the avoidance of toxic chemicals in the growing process. Healthy soils sequester more carbon from the atmosphere!
Buying LOCALLY from organic farms saves fossil fuels from shipping. Check the label on that tomato! For example, if you live in the Northeast, it’s best to not choose a tomato grown in California!
You can’t get any more local than growing your own food. Some of us don’t have the space to have an outdoor garden, but you can grow highly delicious and nutritious food inside your home in a jar!
We LOVE growing sprouts! Especially crimson clover, radish, and fenugreek. We find these three varieties especially easy to sprout and very tasty. And, they are highly nutritious containing essential vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, fiber, and even protein.
To start your sprout garden, all you need is a packet of seeds, a jar, water, and a sunny-ish window sill. Please check out our previous post about how to grow sprouts: https://karenleemardicrane.substack.com/p/grow-your-own-sprouts
Start sprouting soon! You’ll love them, while taking a small step that matters!
Growing sprouts is SO easy! I’d highly recommend using organic seeds whenever possible. Also, being a gardener myself, if I have something that goes to seed, I’ll save it to use as spouts! Last year I let a head of broccoli get too ripe and it went to seed. I’d like to say it was on purpose but that wouldn’t be very accurate :-) I used those seeds to grow my own microgreens! Those “oops” sometimes have a silver lining 😊
