Spring Is Almost Here
And, so is Easter!
Spring is almost here and that means that Easter isn’t too far behind! In the past, at least in my family, that meant a trip to the store for plastic eggs, plastic green grass, plastic baskets…you get the picture. Especially these days where everything is so expensive, many tend to look for the cheap one-time-use goods at places like the dollar store. But what about the real price of so much waste in our environment? Balancing convenience with sustainability is hard sometimes but we DO need to pay attention and reduce our dependence on wasteful products that ultimately harm our environment.
Egg hunts were a favorite activity for my family and often included painted hard-boiled eggs and the reusable plastic eggs were filled with treats, money, etc. Nowadays, more eco-friendly choices for reusable eggs and natural dyes for real eggs are aplenty! Check out this article by Sustainable Jungle which gives lots of suggestions for not only eggs, baskets, and grass, but also a plethora of other ways to have a sustainable Easter celebration.
My family makes much better and more sustainable choices today that don’t affect our traditions at all, AND, we get the added benefit of not adding to the overabundance of waste, especially microplastics, in our environment. Win/win! These little changes can lead to important outcomes and therefore more proof that Small Steps Matter
